HoustonStreet.com signs exclusive service provider deal with EarthSat

Online power traders now have access to forecasting and analytical information from the most respected weather service for the power industry.

PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Oct. 12, 1999 - Houston Street Exchange has joined with EarthSat, the most respected weather forecasting service in the energy industry, to provide the members of HoustonStreet.com with exclusive access to its newest weather products and services. This is the first time power traders will have access to this caliber of weather forecasting information online. With this unique service, HoustonStreet.com has taken another step in solidifying its position as the online power trading floor and portal of choice by connecting traders to the information they want by partnering with companies such as EarthSat.

As a result of this partnership, HoustonStreet.com will be able to offer its members three separate service levels that provide traders with additional premium products and services such as:

  • Power Weather Checker, an hourly monitoring service for key cities in each region.
  • Complete historical weather data for key cities in each region.
  • 12-month temperature departure forecast for each region.
  • Day-by-day forecast maps, which offer a comparison between actual forecast temperatures and previous forecasts, and provide deviation from the norms.

This is the first time traders will be able to access weather forecasting information based upon power trading regions. Previously, traders had to make decisions based on weather data broken out by geographic region, which didn't coincide with power trading regions. This forced wholesale power traders to make deals based upon incomplete information.

"EarthSat is excited about our new partnership with Houstonstreet.com to provide the power trading community timely, accurate data and forecasts in a brand new format," said Matt Rogers of EarthSat.

EarthSat will provide power trading region-based weather maps and forecasts as part of its exclusive product and service offerings through HoustonStreet.com. Users will be able to view hourly updates within each region and comparative analyses of current and past weather data to help them make the best trading decisions.

"We are committed to providing power traders with high quality portal content and information. This gives HoustonStreet.com a definite advantage because users have access to the information they need to make the best power trades online," said Houston Street Exchange President and CEO Frank Getman. "EarthSat is the best weather service for power traders because it gives traders detailed information about the power trading regions that interest them."

About EarthSat

The Earth Satellite Corporation (EarthSat) was established in 1969 to provide remote sensing capabilities to private and public interests. In 1990, in response to growing demands from the newly deregulated natural gas industry as well as from heating oil interests, EarthSat formally created its Energy Weather Services. Since then, the Energy Weather Services have expanded considerably in order to meet the growing demand for weather data and products. The continuing deregulation of the power industry promises even more opportunity as power traders and marketers demand more efficient information to maintain a competitive edge. EarthSat's Services are built on the foundation of forecast integrity using objective techniques, dynamic capability to adjust products to clients changing needs and solid reliability that you come to expect for consistent, professional service 24 hours a day.
